Philanthropy Page

At Delta Sigma Phi, we are committed to giving back and making a positive impact in our community. Through fundraising events, volunteer initiatives, and partnerships with impactful organizations, we strive to embody our values of service and leadership. Our philanthropic efforts not only support meaningful causes but also foster a sense of purpose and unity among our members. Together, we are dedicated to creating lasting change and building a brighter future.

Our Cause

Over Labor Day weekend, one of our brothers Ethan McCoy was enjoying his day at the beach. All was well until he dove into a bad wave, hit his head on a sandbar, and suffered a spinal cord injury and spine fracture from the C5 to the C7 level in his neck. We are so thankful that Ethan is alive and alert. He had a successful surgery to stabilize his cervical spine and received the good news from his doctor that his spinal canal was intact and the spinal cord was not completely severed. He is still paralyzed below the chest and only able to move his arms and wiggle some of his fingers at this time, but he has tingling sensations throughout his whole body - a positive sign. Ethan now is at a live-in rehabilitation center for three months to help him get back to moving and living on his own. Unfortunately, his insurance will not cover the type and quality of facility that Ethan needs to attend for the best possible outcomes.

Sailors Week 2025

Sailors Week is one of Delta Sigma Phi’s most cherished philanthropy events, bringing our chapter and community together for a full week of fun-filled activities to support an incredible cause. This year, we proudly raised $23,000 for our brother and friend Ethan McCoy, helping him on his road to recovery. Each day featured a fun event designed to engage the SDSU community, foster connections, and create excitement, all while supporting our main goal to help out our brother. Although our philanthropy week is past, our cause does not stop here. We have an on going gofundme still working toward a $500,000 goal. If you would like to visit the gofundme, click the hyperlink to be redirected to the cause and please help spread and share Ethan’s story.

A couple highlights from the week included "Dog Days," where students and community members got to meet and play with some dogs, and the fan-favorite "Pie a DSig," where supporters could show their support and have a good laugh by pieing a fraternity member. We also concluded our week with an amazing live band at chapter. With the enthusiasm and generosity of everyone involved, Sailors Week has become more than just a tradition—it’s a testament to the power of teamwork, compassion, and dedication to giving back and a display of the strong brotherhood we hold here at Delta Sigma Phi.
